PicoSure Tattoo Removal Q & A

How does the PicoSure® laser work?

The PicoSure laser uses an advanced PressureWave™ technology to target and shatter tattoo ink particles without damaging the surrounding skin. PressureWave uses rapid pulses of light energy to target the tattoo ink, causing a change in pressure that pulverizes the ink. Once it turns it into dust-like particles, your lymphatic system absorbs the particles and naturally eliminates them from your system.

The pressure from the PicoSure laser also breaks up all colors of tattoo ink on all different skin tones. It even works exceptionally well on multicolored tattoos and black ink that’s difficult for other treatments to effectively remove.

As an added bonus, PressureWave technology also gently “squeezes” cells to activate the process that promotes new collagen and elastin growth, so your skin is renewed.

What can I expect with the PicoSure tattoo removal treatment?

It takes about 10 minutes for a PicoSure treatment on an average-sized tattoo, but you’ll most likely need several treatments to remove all of the ink. Large tattoos take longer per treatment, as well. During the removal process, the sensation of the PicoSure laser feels similar to the experience of getting the tattoo.

The pressure from the PicoSure laser is gentle, and any discomfort you experience is usually well tolerated. Dr. Roth and her team can provide options for your comfort if that’s a concern. They also advise you on the number of treatments you’ll need to remove your tattoo based on its size and location on your body.

Typically, you can expect to come to the office for a treatment every 6-8 weeks until you achieve the desired results. The PicoSure system often removes tattoo ink in fewer treatments than many other methods, so you may be tattoo-free sooner than you thought possible.*

What should I expect after a tattoo removal treatment?

Your recovery time after a PicoSure laser treatment depends on the area you’re treating and your body’s ability to heal itself. PicoSure is a safe, permanent way to remove your unwanted tattoos, and aside from minor hypopigmentation (skin lightening), the chance of scarring is rare.

Recovery time is minimal, but you should avoid the sun between treatments, as your skin will be more sensitive to the sun’s rays. After your tattoo removal is complete, you should continue to use sunscreen to keep your skin protected.

Don’t let an unwanted tattoo prevent you from seeking certain career opportunities in your life. Find out if PicoSure tattoo removal is right for you. Call to schedule a consultation today!
